All of my files are of 16 bit / 44.1k sampling rate and that's the setting when I record the file originally...always has been. I was just surprised at the rejection of a single channel, 16 bit, 44.1k wav and the acceptance of a 2-channel mono, 16-bit, 44.1k wav. As you mentioned, my old Adaptec app must have been converting the 1-channel files whereas MusicMatch and HP Record Now will not. Thanks!

Audio cd quality is always 16bit stereo 44.1kHz. Some cd recording application will require you to do the conversion to meet these qualification and others will convert your files for you in the burn process. I highly suggest using these standards when initially converting the original, because the over all quality is tremendously better.

I don't see any problem; I think that's all the software would do anyhow, because audio CD is always two channel.

Thanks. I really don't want to spend another $50 or $80 for another burning app such as Roxio...already spent $20 to get the full features key to MusicMatch...unless anyone sees a potential problem with converting a 1-channel file to 2-channel mono.

In all probability, the problem is the new software. Unless you've a particularly unique or ficky writer, you should be able to switch to different off-the-rack software.

PS. My old puter...a Compaq with Win98, using an older Adaptec burning app and an external USB burner...had no problems with single channel files.

I've encountered a minor problem burning single channel files on my new puter. It's an HP running WinXP with an internal burner and I'm using the burning apps that came with the machine...HP's Record Now and MusicMatch. Both apps refuse to accept single channel files...the MusicMatch error message says that it can only accept 16 bit files, which all mine are. The workaround is to split the single channel file back to 2-channel mono as the raw file is...both apps then accept the file. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks!
