  • Distorted recording

I have a recording (human voice) which has been recorded with too high level. Such recording is strongly distorted and difficult to understand in some places. Is any general method to repair such distorted recordings?
    Thanx for any suggestions

If it is just a spoken word recording, I do the following:

    1. Decrease the level of the signal by 6 dB

    2. Apply the De-Clipper

    3. Apply a very narrow bandpass filter to the signal (the IIR type).

    4. I set the parameters as follows: Low Frequency: 150 Hz, High Frequency: 3000 Hz, Chebyshev Response.

Note: I slowly raise the filter order from 2nd up to 4th and use the lowest order that accomplishes the task.

If you want, you can send me a snipped of the file and I will check it out. Send it to dctools@aol.com or craig@diamondcut.com.
