  • Successful installation under win 7 64 bit.

Just a note to any of you users of Mentor that have upgraded their operating system to Windows 7 64 bit.

Left to it's own resources, Mentor doesn't want to install on the Win 7 64 bit platform. However, if you change the compatibility of the install file to "previous versions of Windows"; Mentor installs just fine.

The registration process also went without incident and appears that the program works fine, once that slight tweak is done.

Hmmm, I had tried that and it didn't work. I'll make sure I boot cleanly and try it again. Thanks, Geebster.

No foolin'.... it worked. Just to show I'm not fibbing; here's a small screen shot of my partial desktop.

I believe you; I'll get to it this weekend.

How do you like Win7 64-bit? Especially with regards to music production related software. I have installed all my music software, but haven't had a chance to give the apps a thorough shake-down.

I personally love it. I have 2 machines with it installed; both have 6GB of RAM and everything runs rock solid.

I run a wide variety of music applications, and have never had a single problem.

The only tiny issue I've had, is that my ancient HP printer isn't 100% supported by the new OS. But other than that, all hardware and software transitioned without much of any significant problems.

I just spent (well, work just spent) $3k on some software that was very explicit about not running under 64-bit Windows 7, so I haven't installed that version. I also found there were issues with some other software I use regularly. I got win 7 32-bit on my laptop this fall, and I like it better than XP. I skipped Vista completely.

                Glad it worked.

I know that it might disgust some of the regular DC7xx users, but I find Mentor very useful in my restorations, as I'm not trying to salvage some prehistoric recordings.

Many times Mentor is just the ticket to get a quick restoration done with a minimum of fuss.

I'm personally glad that it's in the DC line-up.

Yup - - - that is exactly why we created Mentor (because of that requirement). It seems like quite a few folks like it for that reason.

I understand that your great information in playing to discuss with every one of the pieces was extremely helpful.
