  • Saving Source to Overwrite Music

    Group,

When I have a source file active, I have tried to use the "save source" command to overwrite a music file of the same name in another folder (from the one I'm using). The software does not allow me to do that and gives a big circle with Red in it.

However, if I have a file in the destination window, I can save that file and overwrite a music file with the same name.

    Is this by design?

    Hi Marc
If you are in classic edit mode then both files (source and destination) are written to as you make your edits. The save source menu item stays greyed out because it would not do anything. You should be able to do a "save source as" command and write to that same file name in a different folder. I just tested this and i did work.
    Are you doing something different?

      Rick,

      Nice Avatar.

I'm in Classic Mode. I have a new source file open, and it previously was a destination file. This new source file has been filtered. With this new source file active, I use the "Save Source As" command and try to save it to a new folder that already contains the same file name. The reason that I'm trying to save this source file, is that I have performed improvements to the music and I want to replace the previous work.

I.E. I'm upgrading previous work on the music file, and do not want to type the file name, just replace it.

When I do this operation from the destination window, I can overwrite the same name (I do get a warning, but that's to be expected).

However, when the operation comes from the source, I get this shown message.

      Snips shown.

Today, same commands and No error when I saved the source as the same name in another folder.
I have omitted a step today, in that the source file that I had a problem with saving, had been created using the "change sample rate" command.

Today, the file that is in the source file was previously a destination and did not have the sample rate changed. So, this seems to be related to the creation of a new source via the change sample rate (96k to 44.1). When that command is done, a new source file appears with the new sample rate.

Seems to be a very obscure problem...
