  • 24 Bit Recording

Utilizing DC6's recorder, I've made a 24-Bit/44.1kz recording that I'm unable to play back, getting the message, "The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated." Something obvious is escaping me.

That generally means that the sound card is not capable of that format. Some soundcards may "emulate" 24 bit recording, but actually do 16 bit with 8 bits being set to zero. But upon attempting to play such a recording, the soundcard may error out.

But, this is worth trying: Goto the preferences menu/soundcard. See what drivers you are set for. If it is set for MME, change it to WDM and see if it plays. Some soundcard drivers can handle 24 bits with WDM drivers but not MME's.

keywords: 24 bits MME, 24 bit MME, 24 bits WDM, 24 bit WDM

Thanks, changing to WDM did the trick.
