  • 24 bit word to 16 bit truncation

Hi, does anybody know if it is possible to truncate a WAV file recorded at 24bit 44.1KHZ to 16bit 44.1KHZ? IE: can this be done in Millennium? or do I need additional s/w. If not would you guys consider putting it into the next release along with a dither feature?

File/save as - choose 16 bits. I don't know if it is dithered or not. Some other software packages do offer dithering options.

The conversion to 16bits is not dithered. We are considering adding dither to future releases.

What's the status of saving a 24-bit file
as 16-bit ? Has this been improved from
truncation yet ? If there is a new algorithm
can you describe it ? I'm using the demo version of Live, and the Save is grayed out,
I assume that's a demo limitation. But would
like to know more about the down-conversion
        from 24 to 16 bits.

        Thanks much in advance,
        Tom P.

Version 4.8 is still does not have ditering on the 24 to 16bit conversion. But noise shaped dither will be included in the next release of DCartLive version 5 which is under development right now.
