There have been questions as to what equipment was used to record the Edison Lateral Electrical (thin-cuts). Our log notes show something about that which gives us a hint. On matrix N-416A's label (My Jesus as thou will by the Metropolitan Quartet) was written in pencil "New Cutter". The same song which is matrix N-416B said this on the label in pencil "GE Cutter". It is quite possible that the Edison company used their own cutter system prior to those Matrix numbers. There is some indication that they did design their own cutter and amplifier system by way of some equipment that we found on the third floor which was obviously a prototype and/or just a one-off setup that included a preamp, monitor amp and power amp for the cutting head. Maybe they started off with their own home-brew electrical recording system for a period of time and then switch over to the GE system.
