Handel’s Messiah (1978) Performance
This performance of Handel’s Messiah predates the other version posted on this website. It is always spiritually uplifting to sit down and listen to a rendition of Handel’s Messiah, especially during the Christian Holiday season; it preserves the true meaning of the Holiday. It was performed on Sunday, December10th, 1978 at the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Westfield, NJ. It is a free download and contains excerpts from the musical oratorio called The Messiah (HWV 56) which was written in 1741 by George Frederic Handel (in the English language). Much of the Scriptural text was compiled from the King James version of the Bible and was compiled by Charles Jennens. Some of the Scriptural text was derived from the Psalms found in the Tanakh (the Jewish version of the “Old Testament”). Messiah was first performed in Dublin on April 13th, 1742.
